I looked at the data from the Website you recommended, graphed it , and now I’ve even looked at your graph and I still can’t see the effects of 3/11.

Am I crazy right now, or is it just not a large enough effect to measure? There is nothing in any of the data that I’ve seen to suggest that a major disaster occurred. Nothing I’ve seen would make me pause and say, “what was going on there.” Even the drop in 2009 was more dramatic that the effects of 3/11.

Ah, is that so? Given class yesterday, is that surprising or is that what you would expect?

For comparison you could look at US data around the period of Hurricane Katrina. Or the 1995 Kobe earthquake in Japan. I can’t think of another developed-country natural disaster that would be (EDIT) relevant — oh, yes, what happened in and around September 2001 in the US (remembering that the dot.com bubble broke in early 2000, bottoming out [if one excludes Sept 2011] in late summer 2001). For US data, go to the Bureau of Economic Analysis bea.gov or to FRED at the St Louis Fed.
