Apparently China thought it owned some Islands, and Japan also thought it owned them. Then Japan bought them. Maybe Japan will be smaller after this class than when it began.

Thanks to Jim Breen on the NBR Japan discussion forum, see the following site that notes some citizens in China clearly view the brouhaha as an attempt by the government to divert attention from simmering domestic issues, of course at a time when new leaders are being selected and will want to bolster their legitimacy.
